TWO year anniversary

I'm gonna be honest, there was even less progress made on the full game this year than last year.  The health problems from last year's post still aren't fully gone, and other IRL things have been going on as well.  And having to hunker down on getting a real job and/or education.  And my drawing tablet broke recently (I'm far from drawing final art assets, but it's still a bummer).  And One Million New Special Interests As Well (Distracting) (one example is Yasuhiro Nightow's work, and as I read through the Trigun manga, quite a few of the bonus comics were just him talking about Media that Distracted Him from his work... nobody is free of this!)

It's still not all been for not, though!  In case you missed it, I updated the demo to be more accessible (+ some minor QOL adjustments), I made stickars, and an even more in-line-with-things April Fools Game.  And I scripted out a potential teaser short, and worked on some music here and there, although I can't prove any of that yet.  Just in terms of things relevant to Snip Snip Snippy specifically.  I've also been working on other projects that ideally may help with the development- at least for practice, if not help get me some additional funds as well.  Been focusing on learning the Godot engine lately.  Maybe my next April Fools Game will be even bigger... (if I do a game next year... I've already got a stream planned out, I don't know if I'll do both... we'll see...)

Well, anyways, let's look at word counts, the most concretely quantifiable part of the development still.  I'm going to continue using the original doc of the demo as the basis for how long "chapter one" is, because I'm not counting the alt text towards this (it'll have to be one of the last steps of the development of the full game anyway- I need to make the images to know what to describe, and I need to finish writing to know what images I'll need to make), and it'd be too much of a pain to prune out the alt text from the game script to account for what little changes I made to the non-alt text in the accessibility update.  So the numbers aren't going to be fully accurate.  But!  I'm happy to gather numbers regardless!  I Love Calculation!

Again, as I said in last year's post, the demo's word doc (comments & such and all) sat at 8,127 words, and the portion of Bevelyne's route that's going to be changed in order to not instantly kill you was 338.  The writing that will replace it has since gotten up to 619 words- 114 words more than it was last year, and 281 words longer than the original.  This brings "chapter one" from last year's 8,294, up to 8,408 words.

The word counts for individual routes & the in-between scenes with you past that point are as follows:

  • Cherry:  1,288 (last year: 1,014)
  • Elby:  3,089 (last year: 2,694)
  • Bevelyne:  3,874 (last year: 1,339)
  • You:  678 (last year: ... 678... whoops)
  • Secret:  213

Ohhh, I've really been having fun with Bevelyne this past year, huh...
That gives us 9,142 words for everything after "chapter one".  In total, 17,550 words, 3,531 more than last year's total.  Technically a little less progress than I'd made last year, but as I explained earlier, that's understandable and if you refuse to understand then that's not my problem.  Honestly, it's more progress than I thought I'd made prior to tallying it all up...

Now, with all that out of the way... I've made a little something special for the occasion.  Not just for the demo's anniversary, but Halloween as well!  Come check it out!!!!
